Introduction

Welcome to all Muskegon Catholic Central (MCC) Teammates, Classmates, Alumni and others interested in the historic 1970 Muskegon Catholic Central (MCC) Football Season!

Why historic?

2020 is the 50th anniversary of the seminal MCC Football season that permanently changed the winning status of MCC football. The 1970 MCC team broke a streak of 8 straight losing football seasons  to emerge in 1970 as Lake Michigan Athletic Conference Champions and #4 in the AP Class B State Rankings.

According to the Michigan High School records website, from 1962 – 1969 MCC had 8 straight losing seasons, 7 of those seasons with 3 wins or less and one season (1965) with 4 wins.  MCC launched the losing streak with an 0 – 9 record in 1962

After the 1970 MCC Team broke the 8 season losing streak, MCC didn’t have another losing season for 15 years (1985) and has only experienced a total of SIX losing seasons in the last 50 seasons!

The “Historic” designation is simple…

Before the 1970 season, MCC Football was expected to LOSE.

After the 1970 season, MCC Football has been expected to WIN.

A great and historic 50 year legacy for the hard work of all subsequent MCC teams and especially for the 1970 MCC Football Team that started it all!

The 1970 MCC Football Blog Game Plan

At 7:00 pm ET on each game date of the 1970 season we will be posting the newspaper article for that game from the Muskegon Chronicle and, in some cases, from the gridiron opponents newspaper.

Typical of the 1970 MCC Football Team habit to be in the right place at the right time, every game day and date of the 1970 Season exactly matches the day and date in 2020.  This means that when you are reading each new game day post at 7:00 pm ET on each Friday night throughout the season, you will be doing so at the exact time, day and date the game was being played 50 years ago.
